“Life is pretty fucking boring without it,” SG Lewis says looking back on a year without any access to clubs. “Without moments to look back at and the experiences that make life worth living it is all pretty dull. It’s a shame that we have a government that just doesn’t care.” Wandering around an empty Phonox in west London, he lays out his fears for the future of night life across the world, as a generation of young people miss out on the formative experiences of the dancefloor amid a global pandemic. Just how many establishments across the U.K. can make it through without major financial support?
In times: Past & Present, The FADER’s insightful new documentary, we explore the dance music scene’s most testing period with the help of SG Lewis. He talks about his life spent manning the decks at clubs across the country, from his student days in Liverpool as a resident at the formative Chibuku night to his status as a major producer and songwriter in his own right. He also discusses how experience of the past year has shaped his new record, originally called Good Times, now simply titled times as a reflection of the challenges faced this past year.
times is due on February 19. Check out SG Lewis’s doc above.
