For singer Naomi Cowan, heartbreak can be a tool for meaningful growth. The Jamaican singer-songwriter offers a different perspective on a soured relationship on her latest single “Lucky Me,” a soulful, reggae-tinged R&B that finds her contemplating a painful lesson learned. Set to appear on her upcoming Walshy Fire-helmed mixtape StarGirl, the track and its visuals feature fellow Jamaican artist Runkus. “I believe there’s always a blessing & a lesson behind every break-up, even when it’s hard to see in the moment,” Cowan explained about the track via email. “This is why I said ‘Lucky Me’, because when you look back – you kinda shrug your shoulders and realize that maybe you dodged a bullet or saved yourself from even more heartache.” Of the video, co-directed by Cowan herself alongside JP Williams, the singer says she wanted to depict the cycle of a seemingly never-ending toxic relationship. “The moments between Runkus & I show you the seesaw of emotions that can take place.
