Amsterdam’s Legendary Gashouder Venue Will Close for Renovations

Today, the techno festival, Awakenings, set off a firestorm with a social media post about saying (temporary) goodbye to the legendary Gashouder venue in Amsterdam.

We’ve already said temporary farewell to Printworks and we saw Miami’s Club Space closed for the entire Summer for its renovations. What’s happening with Gashouder?

As it turns out, these plans have been in motion since August. On August 10, Amsterdam granted a permit to build a basement under Gashouder. Right now, there are numerous tents sitting around the venue to house necessary components and production facilities. There is an entrance area for security checks, cloakrooms, dressing rooms, production space, and much more. These will all be moved to a newly constructed basement beneath the venue. It will free up the area around the venue and improve the aesthetics of the structure.

Gashoulder will close for these renovations, which will also include significant sound insulation and new ways to manage crowd flow in the space. Below is a visual showing the before and after plan.

Timeline

Gashoulder will close in early 2025 for the renovations, and the work is expected to last nine months. We hope that the construction stays on schedule! For those with concerns there will be an app where people can monitor the progress and there will even be monthly walk throughs for the public to come and ask questions. So after NYE festivities, we will bid farewell to Gashouder until Fall of 2025. Hopefully we’ll see it in new form come ADE 2025.
