Bryan Kang aka KANG is a DJ, songwriter, performer, and producer. KANG believes that music can bond people together from all parts of the world and that is what he aims to achieve with his music. KANG hails from a music and technology background. He learned to play the piano and guitar in high school and after moving to Hoboken/NYC he got the opportunity to perform gigs. After a musical performance with Grammy U in SUNY Oneonta, it opened up new opportunities for Bryan in the world of music. His songs have deep meaning and with his music, he wants to showcase how music affects people. A look at his songs will give one a good understanding of the kind of music that KANG is making. KANG’s song “I have a dream” initially began as a final project for one of his classes. Ben Corbyn (aka Corbyn) and completed the major parts of the song in one afternoon. They communicated next via text messages and then decided about how to the song. Kang then mastered the song. The song talks about awareness about racism and the black lives matter movement and stop asian hate movement. The line I have a dream is from the speech I have a dream by Martin Luther King Jr. His other song “Take you home” is the most interesting song according to KANG. This is simply because he had never met the singer Gillian in person. Due to the global pandemic, he flew back home to Taiwan and has been attending online classes for more than a year. So, all the communications were done through text messages and email. He sent the instrumental part of the song to her and then both of them agreed on the theme of the song. Then Gillian wrote the lyrics and sung the vocals and the mixing was done. “The song “Take You Home” was probably the most interesting because I’ve actually never met Gillian (the singer) in person. Ever since the outbreak, I had to fly back home to Taiwan and take online classes for more than a year now. So all the communications with Gillian were through text and email. I sent the instrumental over to her, then we agreed on what theme we wanted the song to be, she wrote the lyrics and sung the vocals, and then I mixed it. The song is about wanting to get into a new relationship and meeting new people. Fun fact: the instrumental was actually made in the basement of my cousin’s house in New York. I just sat next to the keyboard with my laptop and put down all the ideas in Logic.” This song talks about individuals wanting to get in a new relationship and also meeting new people. KANG also shared that the instrumental part was prepared in the basement of his cousin’s home in New York. He sat with his keyboard and laptop and jotted down the ideas in Logic. The song Let Me Go was also communicated and made online. This time he met Kiera in person during his stay at the school campus in Hoboken, New Jersey. The song is about the inability to let go of past relationships. Arcadia speaks about happiness and positivity. However, the song has been so named as KANG visited his cousins in Arcadia every summer and he had a fun time then. Secondly, he also felt that the world in recent times is full of pro-positive vibes and happiness is just like an act for people. Everyone is fighting a battle of their own. Hence the song is dystopian and not an actual Arcadia. KANG’s 2021 plans include working on his next EP/Album. He also has plans of working and producing an album for a singer named Kiera Kennedy. If possible, Kang will also like to DJ at college parties, restaurants, and bars in New York City. What is going on dance music fans? We’re so excited to bring you yet another installation of our Artist of the Week series. Today, we are bringing you the newest up and coming artist to grace our channel, KANG. Kang was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan and currently enrolled in Stevens Institute of Technology majoring in Music & Technology. Growing up Kang was always exposed to music, one of my dad’s hobbies was building his own home stereo so nearly every night he would blast his music for a sound check and sometimes just enjoy listening to music through his speakers. KANG spent my 1st-3rd grade in a taiwanese local school and so the only exposure to music KANG had was pop music and Michael Jackson. KANG then transferred during 4th grade to an international school and it was there where KANG met the music teacher who introduced him into the genre of classic rock and hard rock. KANG then quickly fell in love with rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, KISS, and his personal favorites Queen and AC/DC. Then in 7th grade is where KANG first discovered EDM after drawing interest in and Avicii, KANG then drew interest in DJing when KANG watched Hardwell and ’s Ultra Miami live set replays on YouTube. KANG then discovered Logic Pro X and quickly learned how to use the program. Everyday KANG was pretty much learning new things about the program and started to produce my own songs. This culminated in KANG’s first ever EP release!
