Just when we thought the “Final Transmission” was the end of the signal, it turns out the universe had other plans. After a year of bittersweet goodbyes and “one last dance” tributes, Gary Richards (Destructo) has officially confirmed that Friendship will return to the high seas in 2027. In late 2025, the ShipFam was devastated when the legendary curator announced that the 2026 voyage would be the brand’s final voyage. Richards’ heartfelt message at the time suggested that while the magic of Friendship would live on in spirit, the physical festival was ready to “vanish into the stars.” However, it seems the pull of the community—and perhaps a few “Alien Friends”—was too strong to ignore. In a surprise announcement today, Destructo teased that the 2027 edition will not just be a return, but a rebirth. “The Final Transmission was a signal, but the ShipFam is a heartbeat,” said Richards. “We thought we were signing off, but the energy we felt during the last year made it clear: Friendship isn’t just a cruise, it’s a necessity. We’re coming back for 2027 with a new mission.” Announced via instagram, Friendship will return to the seas for 5 nights on Jan 17th-22nd sailing from Cabo. Friendship has always occupied a unique space in the EDM landscape. In an era of massive, commercialized festivals, Gary Richards has curated a space where “Dial-A-DJ” room service sets and 24-hour island parties make it a unique and intimate experience.
