Jo.Ke Expands Global Reach With New Live Project Soft Changa

Berlin-based artist continues to blur lines between vocal-led electronica and downtempo club music.

Jo.Ke, known for his vocal contributions to Berlin’s early 2010s downtempo scene, is returning to focus with new live material and global tour dates. The artist, who first gained attention through the track Who Loves The Sun with longtime collaborator Nu, is now working as part of Soft Changa, a new duo with Argentine multi-instrumentalist Ulises.

The pair’s recent singles — Can’t ControlChasing, and Standing In My Own Way — introduce a more song-based structure to the downtempo style Jo.Ke is associated with. Their debut album is due in 2025 on House of Frequency, continuing a collaborative trajectory that also includes recent projects with Nicola Cruz, Viken Arman, and Amine K.

Jo.Ke’s approach blends live vocals with minimal electronic production, drawing on a tradition developed in venues like the now-closed BAR25 in Berlin, where he first emerged. He later co-founded the collective Feathered Sun with artists including Raz Ohara and Acid Pauli. That group contributed to a shift in electronic music toward slower, more melodic styles, which remain influential on festival and alternative club circuits.

As the electronic music landscape continues to broaden, Jo.Ke’s work reflects a wider interest in acts that combine live instrumentation, song structures, and cross-cultural collaboration. His DJ alias, DiscJo.Ke, offers an outlet for more eclectic sets and unreleased material, but the move into full live performance with Soft Changa indicates a shift in focus.

This direction aligns with a broader trend in electronic music where artists are revisiting vocal-led performance and hybrid live sets, responding to changing audience expectations in both club and festival settings.

Upcoming dates:

  • 4 Jul – Les Voiles Beach, Algiers, Africa
  • 19 Jul – Malosma Festival, Valle de Guadalupe, Ensenada, Mexico
