Jorja Smith shares new song/video “Addicted”

Jorja Smith has made a definitive track for toxic, co-dependent relationships everywhere with her new song “Addicted,” out today. The track continues Smith’s recent string of songs that refuses to settle on one genre — there was the dancehall-influenced “Be Honest,” and the somber Sampha-era soul of “By Any Means.” “Addicted” is a lively smacker with its jazzy drums and indie-rock guitars, but Smith’s forlorn vocals are the true source of the passion.

In a press statement, Smith said that “Addicted” is about “focusing on wanting the full attention of someone who’s not giving enough (or any) when they should be.” In the music video, streaming above, Smith coordinates a photo shoot with just her MacBook camera and a variety of outfits. “The video is multiple versions of me singing the song,” Smith said in her statement, “having fun dressing up, not trying to be too serious and just giving myself more freedom.”
