Kid Cudi hinted at an impending retirement from music during his interview on First We Feast’s Hot Ones uploaded on Thursday.
“I’m kinda nearing the end on all things Kid Cudi,” the rapper and producer said while eating some very good-looking chicken wings. The revelation came when he was discussing rap icons like JAY-Z and Eminem who perform and release music well into middle age. “I feel like, I don’t have what they have,” Cudi said. “I just don’t know if I want to do… music, drop albums for too much longer.”
“I’m really curious to see what else I can do,” Cudi explained, though he’s already quite the multi-hyphenate. He is the creator of the new Netflix animated special Entergalactic, has acted in projects by Ti West (X) and Luca Guadagnino (We Are Who We Are) and modelled in Virgil Abloh’s debut show for Louis Vuitton, among other ventures including his own fashion line.
These days, however, he’s considering something a lot more low-key: teaching kids. “It would be cool to one day be a kindergarten teacher,” Cudi said. “Just do that for a couple years. When I’m like 50… infect the youth with that freshness. Then those kids will sprinkle the freshness to the world.”
Will this will effect the long-promised Travis Scott/Kid Cudi album? Who knows? Watch the full interview above. Last week, Kid Cudi shared the soundtrack for Entergalactic.
