WNBA star Courtney Williams created a lighthearted moment during the All-Star weekend festivities when she approached renowned producer and DJ Diplo with an unusual request. While Diplo was in the middle of a set for the Sports Illustrated All-Star After-Party on Saturday night, the Minnesota Lynx guard asked him to pivot from his usual EDM to play some hip-hop instead. Diplo, a multi-platinum artist and founder of groups like Major Lazer and Jack Ü, is famously a dominant force in the world of dance music. Videos from the event show Williams, who was co-hosting a live stream with teammate Natisha Hiedeman, engaging the DJ playfully. “Alright, man. Turn us up, goddammit“, Williams is heard saying in a clip from their “Studz Budz” stream. “Play some hip-hop“. Despite the whimsical nature of the request, Williams and Hiedeman continued to enjoy the atmosphere. Clips show them dancing and having fun to Diplo’s chosen tracks, with Williams even making a cameo on Diplo’s Instagram Stories while dancing to ‘Lean On’. The duo’s Twitch stream, “Studz Budz,” was a major hit throughout the All-Star weekend, drawing nearly 15,000 viewers as they shared their experiences in Indianapolis. Hiedeman told USA TODAY Studio IX that they launched the stream to be trailblazers in the WNBA. “It really started off as two friends… It’s a platform that’s unique, that really no one in the W has touched, so we was like, ‘Let’s be the first ones‘”. The event provided a memorable, and somewhat ironic, moment of celebrity interaction. *Image cover credit: Steph Chambers/Getty Images/Joe Scarnici/Variety [H/T] ComplexWNBA’s Courtney Williams Tells Diplo To “Play Some Hip-Hop” At His All-Star Weekend Set
