Zeds Dead had quite the weekend in New York. It all started on Thursday, March 20th, when they took over the world-famous Katz Deli. They served more than pastrami sandwiches and gave the pop-up crowd plenty to feast on. Katz Deli was filled to the brim with ravers as the Canadian duo played their world-famous sound in an iconic venue. Their New York takeover continued into Friday and Saturday night at the sold-out Avant Gardner. Support for the shows was impressive, including Truth, Mr.Carmack, Distinct Motive, Mary Droppinz, Hershe, Suray Sertin, and more. Each of them added to an unforgettable night of bass and grooves. Zeds Dead is coming off a huge album release Spectrum Of Intergalactic Happiness. Before the release, it had been over 8 years since their last one. This 14-track opus is their gift of self-expression to the world. As you listen, the music takes you to alternate dimensions, jumping across all parallel universes from track to track. ‘One Of These Mornings’ is a personal and crowd favorite, and hearing it for the first time live shook everyone’s bones. Their stage design and visuals for the tour will take you back in time. They line the front of the stage with small old TVs that look similar to what we had as kids (depending on your age of course). They are big, boxy, and vintage, which allows for the visuals to be expressed in a unique manner. Those TVs were never very crisp with their pixels, so you get thrown back into time just by staring at them. Zeds Dead does a wonderful job of sampling old songs. They are no stranger to pulling songs from the 1930s-1950s. What is really cool is they have found footage of the original artist and play it in the background while the modern track plays. They do some clever visual manipulation and take you on a colorful journey. I think the most impressive part about Dylan “DC” Mamid and Zachary “Hooks” Rapp-Rovan is their mixing abilities. They play a variety of genres every time I see them and are constantly shifting BPMs seamlessly and often. This keeps the crowd on their toes, never knowing what to expect next. Zeds Dead transcends this dimension we live in, giving intergalactic happiness to all.Zeds Dead Take Over New York For The Weekend [Event Review]
