Asake has shared the visual treatment for “Joha,” the seventh track from his debut studio LP, Mr. Money With The Vibe, released last month via YBNL Nation with global support from EMPIRE. The new video is by “Boy Director” TG Omori, a leading force in the visual landscape of Afrobeats.
“Joha” is a smooth, sunny jam that finds Asake slipping cheekily from Naijá into French and Spanish at points, flexing nonchalantly on the small-minded haters of the world. In the new video, he demonstrates his indifference with a casual, cross-armed stance, a look he flashes to pushy TV reporters, a caged tiger, and an extremely tatted older gentleman who later lets bygones be bygones and joins the rising Afrobeats star in dance. Much of the clip is a not-so-subtle Coca-Cola ad, but watching the leathery biker guy do the worm makes it all worthwhile.
