Awakenings Lead Protest in Amsterdam Against Event Restrictions

Dutch festival Awakenings decided to cancel its 2021 edition  and tried to comeback during ADE. But event restrictions in the Netherlands will make it difficult, and the organization of Awakenings will celebrate a peaceful protest in order to fight back.

Moreover, Dutch electronic duo Mr. Belt & Wezol also shared their disappointment with the government and its way of handling the event restrictions due to the covid pandemic.

We’re sad. Sad we can’t do shows anymore. Sad we can’t see you guys anymore. This 18-month lockdown has taken a huge toll on our mental health and it’s getting harder every morning to wake up and create music or content. We came to a point where we asked ourselves “what’s even the point?”.
But besides being sad we’re also disappointed. The Dutch government has changed the parameters for a “Summer of Love” festival season numerous times. “No, it’s about group immunity”, blood research shows 93% of Dutch blood donors have COVID-19 antibodies. Last Friday the government cancelled the whole festival season, and all clubs will probably stay closed until November. We’re all about everyone staying healthy and keeping our hospitals as corona-patient-free as possible, but currently the government is not giving us any valid reason for cancelling the rest of the season.

Awakenings Will Lead the Peaceful Prostest

Awakenings will hit the streets of Amsterdam with a peaceful protest on Saturday, August 21st. Join us!After months of being misled by the government’s empty promises, there is still no perspective for festivals. We’ve done the research and analyzed the results. It is clear to us that it’s not Corona that has delivered us a Summer without festivals and an uncertain future; it is the politicians in Den Haag. We, the festival sector, call on you and all music and festival lovers to ready yourselves. We need to make ourselves heard and speak out against the random political decisions of our cabinet. Keep an eye on our socials for the exact time and location. Support us and share this message. The Awakenings Family
