Denzel Curry shares “Bad Luck” featuring PlayThatBoiZay

The weight and character of Denzel Curry‘s voice always seemed like it would lend itself well to rock music long before the Florida rapper ever formally dove into the genre. In 2019, he came together with Canadian punks Fucked Up for the Spotify Singles series and released a psychedelic sludge-rock version of his single “CLOUT COBAIN” as well as a cover of Bad Brains’ “I Against I.” That same year, he shared a rapturously received rendition of “Bulls On Parade” by Rage Against The Machine that only served to underscore his skill as a hard rock frontman.

On “Bad Luck,” an original new song featuring PlayThatBoiZay, Curry flexes his compositional skills for the genre, showcasing different hardcore-inspired flows over distorted guitars that gradually ascend like a hangman’s noose. The song is taken from Dark Nights: Death Metal Soundtrack, which collects music inspired by an upcoming DC Comics series. Show Me The Body, Soccer Mommy, Mastodon, and more will appear on the album, out on June 18.
