Techno-trance exponent JackRock has long been a formidable force in the electronic music scene. Renowned for commanding stages across more than 30 countries and accumulating millions of streams, he continues to push boundaries with his latest project. His solo debut on Charlotte de Witte’s RPM by KNTXT label, the five-track EP Just a Feeling, is out now, marking a significant milestone in his career. The EP arrives on the heels of several successful collaborations, including the club favorite “Soulcatcher” and “In The Dark,” which stood as the #4 best-selling trance release of 2024. We sat down with the producer to explore the emotional depth of his new work and his evolving relationship with the KNTXT imprint. When asked about the development of Just a Feeling, JackRock reveals that the project was a labor of love spanning roughly eight months. Rather than fixating on a single track from inception to completion, he prefers a more fluid approach. “I don’t focus on one track from start to finish,” he explains. “Usually I work on about 10 tracks simultaneously, jumping between them depending on which one excites me at the moment. That way, I keep my mind fresh and come up with new ideas to add to each track.” He notes that this method prevents the common pitfall of rushing a production, which can often lead to clichéd results. By allowing tracks to breathe, he finds space for “extra magic.” However, he admits that the title track, “Just A Feeling,” was a rare exception, written in a single day. “There are some tracks that just happen—it feels like they lead the way and make themselves,” he adds. JackRock’s journey with RPM by KNTXT began through his long-standing friendship with Enrico Sangiuliano. After sharing his music with Sangiuliano, the tracks eventually reached Charlotte de Witte, sparking a creative partnership. “It feels like we resonate on the same frequency, intertwining techno and trance with that initial vibe from the time when that emotional sound was born,” he says. He speaks highly of de Witte, describing her as an incredibly supportive personality who has encouraged him to lean further into his unique sound. This mutual respect has clearly fostered a productive environment, allowing JackRock to refine his signature blend of genres. For JackRock, the intersection of techno and trance is where the real magic happens. He views techno as a dark, driving, and raw force, while trance provides the melodic elevation that creates goosebumps and ecstasy. “Why limit yourself? Why not have the best of all worlds together?” he asks. This philosophy of genre-blurring has become a hallmark of his identity, ensuring his sets remain dynamic and unpredictable. Reflecting on his three decades in the industry, he emphasizes that longevity is fueled by curiosity and a refusal to settle. “What new emotion can be achieved through music? A pinch of boredom, like why limit yourself to one sound? And of course, passion—but that kind of passion that blinds you to any outcome and constantly sparks ideas and the curiosity of ‘What’s next?’” JackRock’s Just a Feeling EP is available now on RPM by KNTXT.JackRock on the Art of Patience and Blurring Worlds in Techno
