Having been making a name for himself with a catalogue built on groove, melody, and soulful energy, Producer and DJ Chewna recently returned with a vibrant new single, ‘Piece of Art’ – an uplifting production featuring the expressive vocal stylings of Silke. With a consistent release run, his journey within Electronic Music remains fuelled, driven by his passion, commitment and focus and evolving through his creativity and forward-thinking outlook. In this behind-the-scenes conversation, we catch up with Chewna to explore the process behind the track – from its earliest ideas to the final touches – while gaining insight into his evolving production style, artistic goals, and what’s coming next. Hi Chewna, how are you? All good, thanks for asking. Let’s start at the track’s origin – what sparked the first idea for ‘Piece of Art’? Was there a particular mood, sample, or concept that kicked things off? The idea started with wanting to make something upbeat that still carried a strong groove. I had a piano chord line I’d been working on, which set the direction, and from there it was about building a track that felt warm and easy for people to connect with. The track introduces several sonic layers — funky horns, piano chords, and synth textures. What was your process for building this soundscape, and how did you decide what belonged in the mix? I started by building the rhythm around the piano line with bass and drums, then gradually added layers like the horns to bring in more colour. It was about testing what worked and keeping the parts that added to the energy without making it feel crowded. Silke’s vocal adds a vibrant and emotive quality to the record. What led you to work together, and how did that collaboration shape the final track? I’d been aware of Silke’s vocals for a while and thought her style would work well on this track. When she sent her vocals over, it gave the track a new layer and helped shape its character. There’s a balance between the vocal-led moments and instrumental grooves through the track— how did you approach this dynamic during production? I wanted the vocals and instrumental sections to complement each other without clashing. It was about finding the right balance so the vocals could stand out while letting the groove continue underneath. Was there a particular moment during the production when everything clicked, and you knew the track was ready to be released? Yes, there was a point when the horns and vocals came together in the mix, and it felt like the track had found its shape. That was when I knew it was ready. Was there anything about this track that challenged you creatively or technically? The biggest challenge was keeping the track balanced. With strong vocals and different layers, I needed to ensure it didn’t feel overcrowded while maintaining energy. It took a lot of tweaking to give each element its space while keeping it cohesive. How do you feel this release contributes to the arc of your discography so far? What sets ‘Piece of Art’ apart from your previous releases? It fits with what I’ve been building but brings in more melodic layers and a more detailed arrangement. The overall feel connects with tracks like ‘What Is Real’ and ‘Light It Up,’ focusing on a strong groove that works on the dancefloor while staying true to my aim of making music that feels soulful and built for movement. Groove, melody, and movement feel central to your creative voice. How do you keep these elements feeling fresh and evolving with each new release? I try to keep it fresh by working with different artists and not sticking to one formula. Playing tracks out and seeing what people connect with helps guide how I approach the next project. Have you had the chance to play ‘Piece of Art’ out live yet — and if so, how has the crowd responded on the dancefloor? I’ve played it out a few times now, and it’s been good to see people enjoying it. The vocal hook seems to catch people, and the groove keeps the energy moving. Finally, now that this track is out – what’s next? Any upcoming music or shows that you’re looking forward to? I have a few more tracks lined up that continue in this direction, and some gigs coming up where I’ll be testing out new material. I’m looking forward to sharing what’s next. As ‘Piece of Art’ finds its place in his growing discography, Chewna continues to push forward with intent, clarity, and energy, promising more to come through both his evolving live schedule and expanding body of studio work. A Producer and DJ steadily shaping his identity, he’s building momentum with each release, groove by groove, carving out a space that feels both distinctive and fresh.
