Listen to Freddie Gibbs cover Gil Scott-Heron’s “Winter In America”

Freddie Gibbs shared his take on poet-musician Gil Scott-Heron’s “Winter In America” on Friday, channeling the late icon’s bluesy cadence over the song’s updated production. The original song appeared on Scott-Heron’s 1974 album of the same name.

The track is set to be featured on a new EP, Black History Always – Music For The Movement, a collaboration project between Hollywood Records and ESPN’s The Undefeated. The project will also include original music from Brent Faiyaz, Tinashe covering Chaka Khan, and more.

Earlier this month, Gibbs shared the ScHoolboy Q-assisted “Gang Signs.” Listen to Gibbs’ take on “Winter In America” above.
