Hi Mondingo, how’s it going?

To start, can you tell us: what was the moment or idea that sparked the production of ‘You’?

The spark for ‘You’ came from a personal realization. I was reflecting on how no matter how beautiful a place might be, it feels meaningless if you can’t share it with someone you love. That thought stuck with me, and I wanted to turn it into a song that celebrates the people who make life meaningful.

What emotions did you want the soundscape of ‘You’ to evoke?

I wanted ‘You’ to feel intimate and expansive at the same time. The soundscape needed to evoke a sense of gratitude, connection, and warmth while also being melancholic and reflective. It’s about love, but it’s also about the beauty of sharing moments and how incomplete they can feel without someone to share them with.

‘You’ blends electronic and acoustic elements seamlessly. How do you approach merging these textures during production?

For me, it’s all about balance. I start with the emotional core of the song—usually through melody or harmony—and then build layers that reflect that. The acoustic elements add warmth and humanity, while the electronic textures bring movement and energy. I’m always searching for a dynamic interplay between the two to create something that feels organic yet modern.

Do your own life experiences heavily influence your music? If so, how do you shape those emotions into sounds that resonate with a broader audience?

Absolutely, my life experiences are the foundation of my music. I always start with a feeling or memory that’s personal to me, but then I think about how to express it in a way that’s universal. That often comes through in melodies or sound design that evoke emotions everyone can relate to, like longing, hope, or connection.

Your vocal performance on the track is particularly evocative. What role do vocals play in your overall creative process? Do you have a typical workflow when it comes to constructing vocal melodies and lyrics?

Vocals are the emotional anchor of my music. I usually start with making a beat or production. Then I’ll sing some improvisation melodies, letting it flow naturally, and then layer lyrics that fit the mood and story I want to tell. For ‘You,’ the lyrics came last because the feeling of the song was already so present in the music. I like to keep the vocal process fluid—it’s about finding a balance between vulnerability and structure.

‘You’ is part of your forthcoming album, ‘Island’. How does this track set the tone for the album as a whole?

You’ sets the tone by introducing the album’s core themes: connection, nature, and reflection. It’s a love song, but it also reflects the larger journey of Island—escaping modern chaos and reconnecting with what truly matters. It might be a bit faster than the rest of my album (129 BPM), but I don’t want to impose too many rules. It bridges the organic and electronic worlds, which is a recurring thread throughout the album.

Your studio, Durbuy Music, is set in nature. How does the environment influence your creativity?

Being surrounded by nature is like having an endless source of inspiration. The peace and beauty of the environment allow me to focus and connect with my emotions on a deeper level. It’s also a space that invites collaboration and experimentation, which is central to how I work. The sounds of the woods and birds even found their way into some tracks on the album.

You’ve recently started your label, MOODSHINE Records. What motivated you to take this independent route, and how would you say this step is shaping your music moving forward?

Starting MOODSHINE Records was about creating a platform where I could have complete creative freedom and also support other artists with similar values. It’s given me the ability to align my music with my vision without compromise. Moving forward, it allows me to take risks, experiment, and grow while building a community around authentic, emotionally driven Electronic Music.

This release marks a new chapter in your music journey. Can you share what feels different about this phase of your career? What are you most looking forward to as you continue on your musical journey?

This phase feels more intentional than ever. I’ve found my sound, and I’m creating music that feels honest and fully aligned with who I am as an artist. I’m most excited about building connections— with listeners, collaborators, and the artists on MOODSHINE. It’s not just about making music; it’s about creating something meaningful that resonates with people on a deeper level.
