Are you a fan of trance? If so, chances are, you’re quite a positive person! This is according to a new study based on Reddit’s music communities conducted by OnBuy, which aimed to reveal the music genres with the most positive fans, trance ranked #7. Conversely, drum-and-bass and dubstep fans ranked much lower, placing themselves among the study’s least positive music communities. With 77 positive mentions per 100 comments, the music genre that topped the list was Jazz, suggesting jazz fans are the happiest community. Metal and Opera follows closely, while Trance comes in at seventh place with 50 positive mentions per 100 comments. Meanwhile, drum-and-bass and dubstep listeners had only 24 and 29 positive mentions per 100 comments respectively. Most would say these findings are fairly in line with expectations, with trance typically centered around uplifting themes. On the other hand, dubstep tends to be associated with darker, grungier elements. As with most studies, it’s useful to take note of certain limitations. Firstly, the sampling population – the online community on Reddit – remains fairly small relative to the entire music scene. Moreover, the element of ‘positivity’ is determined only by the ‘Positive Mentions per 100 Comments,’ a metric determined based on the ‘Total Positive Words Commented‘ as a function of ‘Total Comments‘.
