Pop artist Roskamala’s latest music video, “Out Of The Maze,” resonates with her personal journey as an outsider and defying societal norms. The empowering visuals celebrate self-acceptance and feature a diverse cast representing uniqueness and the challenges faced by those who don’t fit in. It also serves as a tribute to the LGBTQIA+ community and the singer’s own experiences as a bisexual woman.

“The visuals and characters of the music video for “Out Of The Maze” are based on my true story of feeling like an alien among family and friends, and not belonging in society. I was born an ‘outside of the box’ thinker. My values are different from what a majority of people worship. I choose to live my life as I am the writer and director of my own movie and trust me it is not easy, especially when you’re one of the minorities,” reveals the artist.

She further explains: “I live my life exactly like the lyrics of the song. All the characters represent uniqueness and what it’s like to be different. My experience, it’s extremely challenging to be weird, different and not follow what you were told to do to be normal. The message I’m trying to send is whatever path you choose it’s going to be challenging and that’s life. The inspiration is there are a million ways to be an adult. You don’t have to figure it out right now. As long as you’re on your way to your happy place, that’s totally fine.”

Roskamala, recognizing the influence of one’s upbringing, bravely left behind a judgmental and comfortable existence to pursue a more purposeful life—a place where she could truly belong. The artist realized that not everyone needs to comprehend her journey; what matters is having a select few who genuinely believe in her. Until recently, she had always felt like an outsider, but that has changed now.

“My lyrics and this EP taught me that anyone can be happy living differently. I am not saying it’s easy, but I can say it’s worth fighting for. I was diagnosed with bipolar when I was 18 and I have known I’m gay since I was six. Obviously, my choices are a box of chocolate. I used to see those traits as my weaknesses, but now it’s 2023. I believe everyone should have a place where they feel they belong,” admits Roskamala.

Through her EP, Truth She Told, including the standout track “Out Of The Maze,” Roskamala candidly expresses her own encounters as an outcast and nonconformist. She inspires her audience to embrace their individuality and discover joy in living authentically. The record carries a unifying message of vulnerability as a source of strength and self-acceptance.
