Missy Elliott has received the honor of having a street named after her in the town she grew up in. The plan to rename a street in Portsmouth, Virginia Missy Elliott Boulevard was approved on Wednesday (via Wtop) with the rapper herself confirming the news. “I am forever GRATEFUL,” she wrote on Twitter.
Portsmouth resident and Missy fan Erin Carter made the initial request for the street name to be changed. For those looking for Missy Elliott Boulevard head to the section of McLean Street between Airline Boulevard and Greenwood Drive. Attractions on the street include Woodland Park, Victory Crossing Shopping Center, and soon to open Portsmouth Rivers Casino.
Missy Elliott’s most recent album The Cookbook was released in 2005. Last year she appeared alongside Bree Runway on “ATM.” She also featured on a remix of Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” taken from 2020’s Club Future Nostalgia project.
