The third album from Virginia singer-songwriter (and one-third of boygenius) Lucy Dacus sports more of her transcendent indie rock. “I don’t necessarily think that I’m supposed to understand the songs just because I made them,” Dacus says in a press statement, “I feel like there’s this person who has been in me my whole life and I’m doing my best to represent them.”

No R&B group left their mark on 2020 quite like SAULT. The secretive collective shared the projects Untitled (Black Is) and Untitled (Rise), the former of which was our second favorite project of the year. The new project Nine may only be available for streaming and purchase for 99 days, judging from a timeline on the band’s website.

We loved “Little Deer,” the immutable lead single from Oakland avant-pop artist Spellling. Her new project is entirely self-produced and enlists the talents of 31 different musicians.

Atlanta artist and one-time Awful Records affiliate Faye Webster shares her fourth full length album and second LP for Secretly Canadian. “It really was just a more hopeful project from what I feel I was making in the past,” Webster said when she spoke to The FADER for our weekly podcast The FADER Interview.

Written during the pandemic’s ceaseless lockdown, the new album from Brooklyn-based composer Eli Keszler eschews easy listening on his new project. The most accessible entry point is the single “The Accident,” a jazzy standout from the week it was released.

Lightning Bug were almost certainly kaput after sharing their 2019 album October Song, but thankfully, a rush of inspiration has resulted in a new full-length from the swoony pop group. “For A Color of the Sky,” Lightning Bug’s songwriter Audrey Kang told The FADER, “I knew exactly what I wanted. I just knew.”
