You Can Register to Receive $25 From Apple’s ‘Batterygate’ Settlement

Remember when Apple was caught throttling users’ iPhones last year? Well, the issue isn’t over yet, and many iPhone owners may be eligible for part of the settlement. According to MacRumors, a website was created specifically for consumers to register. If you qualify, you may receive a fair amount of cash for your headache. It’s stated that Apple will “provide a cash payment of approximately $25 per eligible device”.

To qualify, you must have owned one of the devices in the time period below:

  • iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and /or iPhone SE running iOS 10.2.1 or later prior to December 21st, 2017
  • iPhone 7/7+ running iOS 11.2 or later, prior to December 21st, 2017

If you previously owned or still own one of these devices today, be sure to register ASAP. Earlier this year, Apple agreed to pay out a maximum of $500 million to those affected. While $500 million is a huge amount of money, it will deplete quickly once dispersed. As a result, those late to register themselves may receive less than others. When registering, all you need is your iPhone’s serial number. If you do not have the number on hand, you may also sign in with your Apple ID.

Apple still believes they did nothing wrong by slowing down older iPhones. In their eyes, they were preventing older generation iPhones from experiencing shutdowns or other performance issues. To help those affected, Apple offered more affordable battery replacements on all iPhones for a limited time. Additionally, Apple implemented better battery management options through a software .

For now, check out the settlement website here and register if you qualify!
